This Jason Bateman Series Is the Most-Viewed English-Language Show on Netflix

It’s been a few weeks since Ozark debuted the second half of season 4, but the popular series is still taking Netflix by storm.

Ozark has claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched English-language shows. Netflix released the data this week, which calculates results based on the number of hours viewed each week. According to the streamer, Ozark clocked in at 48.62 million hours, followed by The Lincoln Lawyer in the number two spot (with 45.09 million hours).

It’s important to note that this list is different from the one featured on Netflix’s homepage, where Ozark was recently dethroned by The Lincoln Lawyer. (The latter is updated daily, unlike the above list which represents the entire week.) But based on these findings, it seems The Lincoln Lawyer may surpass Ozark in a few days as the most-watched English-language show.

So, what is Ozark about? The crime drama follows Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney), who relocate their family from Chicago to the Ozarks. It doesn’t take long for the couple to become involved in a money laundering scheme gone awry. They’re forced to make amends with the drug cartel, which only leads to more illegal activities. And in season 4, the Byrdes develop a cooperative relationship with the cartel’s leader, Omar Navarro (Felix Solis).

In addition to Bateman, Linney and Solis, Ozark also stars Julia Garner (Ruth), Sofia Hublitz (Charlotte), Skylar Gaertner (Jonah), Lisa Emery (Darlene), Janet McTeer (Helen), Charlie Tahan (Wyatt), Tom Pelphrey (Ben), Jason Butler Harner (Roy) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Maya).

Ozark originally premiered on Netflix back in 2017. Although the subject matter and cinematography are extremely dark (*increases brightness on TV*), the show immediately became a success among critics and fans, garnering a whopping 32 Emmy nominations. While Bateman won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2019, Garner was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series two years in a row.

Leave it to Marty Byrde.
