Jasprit Bumrah Should Be Brought Straightway When Joe Root Comes To The Crease – Monty Panesar Gives A Guide To Dismiss England Captain Early

Former England spinner Monty Panesar opined that the Virat Kohli should call up Jasprit Bumrah as soon as Joe Root arrives at the crease in a bid to dismiss the English captain early on in his innings.

England may have conceded a loss at Lord’s and were behind at Trent Bridge as well, however, Root has been a thorn in India’s side. Root has already ransacked 386 runs in 2 Tests with two centuries and a fifty. But, he has been dismissed twice by Bumrah, both caught behind off an edge. And this is a way which Monty Panesar suggests Indians can further trouble Root.

“The way to get him out is to bowl at the fifth stump line and outside the off stump. His wicket was planned by Virat in the second innings and Bumrah executed it well. Virat should again make a plan against Root. Root plays the pull shot really well, so don’t bowl short pitch balls to him,” Monty Panesar told Times of India.

“Virat should bring in Bumrah straightway whenever Root comes to the crease. Both Bumrah and Siraj have the ability to put pressure on a batsman from the word go. That’s what they did with Root in the second innings and the captain lost his wicket,” he added.

Further on the same topic, the 39-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator explained that Root likes to settle into his groove and once he does it’s difficult to uproot him. He suggests Indian bowlers keep challenging the English captain with different plans and tactics so that he remains on his toes every ball.

“You need to frustrate Root and force him to change his position. He likes to bat with a flow. If the flow is not happening, he will change his position and game plan. That’s what India would want. That’s the way India can get Root out early,” Monty Panesar concluded.

After more than a week’s rest, both teams travel to Leeds, the city for the third Test starting 25th August.
