Jaylen Brown: Boston Celtics star nets first-time All-Star selection after standout season

Jaylen Brown is a first-time All-Star selection after a standout season for the Boston Celtics.

Brown played one year of college basketball for the California Golden Bears in the 2015/16 season, being named first-team all-conference and Freshman of the Year in the Pac-12 Conference.

Brown was selected by the Celtics with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He has improved year on year, particularly in the last two seasons.

In December last year, Brown scored a career-high 42 points along with five rebounds and four assists in a 126–107 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 24-year-old has been selected to the 2021 All-Star team, which will fittingly be played in his childhood state Georgia, for his first time being named an NBA All-Star.

Standing at 6ft 6in and 223lbs, it will be interesting to see how Brown does in the 3-Point Contest as well although a persistent knee injury has ruled him out of the dunk competition.

“Dunk contest would have been great if I could have done it,” he said.

“I don’t think my body is agreeing with me right now in terms of that. But that’s something I was looking to do, but I don’t think it’s going to work out that way.”

The game will be played in Atlanta on 7 March.
