Jenna Lyons and HauteLeMode’s Luke Meagher Reveal Their Favorite Oscars Dresses, Discuss Emily Blunt “Situation”

Fashion designer and TV personality Jenna Lyons and HauteLeMode style critic Luke Meagher are breaking down their favorite Oscars 2024 red carpet looks in The Hollywood Reporter’s Red Carpet Roundup.

The two opinionated fashion voices met up the day after the 96th Academy Awards to weigh in on the best and most talked-about outfits of the night for a video that appears exclusively on THR. The pair also talked about what goes into creating a red carpet moment.

In the conversation, Lyons explains that when dressing celebrities who are in the same movie, stylists often consider what the other star is wearing. Using Barbie actresses Margot Robbie and America Ferrera as an example, Lyons highlighted that Robbie owned the color pink throughout the Barbie press tour, while Ferrera stuck mainly to black looks. However, for the big night, Ferrera finally debuted a pink ensemble. The supporting actress nominee wore a pink chainmail dress by Versace, which took over 400 hours to make. Both Lyons and Meagher loved the look.

“It’s not just about the individual, it’s about how are you talking about the movie in of itself,” Lyons said in the video. “I think that’s fascinating.”

Dune: Part Two star Zendaya, a consistent red carpet fan favorite, was another highlight for the pair. “It’s so hard to talk about Zendaya because the girl’s just perfect,” Lyons joked. The 27-year-old actress wore a Giorgio Armani Privé gown which features a palm tree print. (See all the star-studded Oscars red carpet 2024 arrivals.)

Lily Gladstone, finishing up her historic awards run for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, wowed Lyons and Meagher. The best actress nominee wore a Gucci dress made in collaboration with porcupine quillwork artist Joe Big Mountain of Ironhorse Quillwork. Meager also pointed out the “revolutionary moment” for red carpet fashion that came about from the historic collaboration between designers, given that luxury houses rarely collaborate in this way. “Normally, when a designer dresses somebody, they want the person to be wearing head to toe that house,” says Lyons.

The pair agreed on most looks but diverged on Oppenheimer actress Emily Blunt’s Schiaparelli look. Blunt’s shoulder straps were a hot topic, but Lyons and Meagher didn’t quite see eye-to-eye on the rest of the dress.

Lyons is well-known for her long career at J. Crew where she eventually served as the brand’s creative director and president. Since leaving the preppy retailer, Lyons was seen on The Real Housewives of New York and recently joined Coveteur as editor-in-chief.

Meagher is known for his buzzy digital fashion news through his HauteLeMode videos on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. The fashion critic recently signed with UTA for representation. Meager was also named to the Business of Fashion 500 list, which applauded him for his ability to bring “fashion criticism to the digital age.”
