Liverpool could be ready to battle it out for the signature of Jeremie Firmpong. And that could spell good news for Celtic who are due a sizeable chunk of any future sale.

The Reds have drawn up a shortlist of right-backs amid the uncertainty surrounding the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract at the end of the season. The England star, 26, is high up a list of targets for Real Madrid and is free to open pre-contract talks with the Champions League winners in January.

Multiple reports suggest that Bayer Leverkusen flying machine Frimpong is one of the key contenders to replace Alexander-Arnold. Frimpong came through the ranks at Manchester City before being plucked by Celtic in 2019 and it's been suggested that Pep Guardiola is keen on bringing him back to the Etihad.

That could spark a bidding war for the pint-sized Netherlands defender's services which will be music to the ears of Parkhead chiefs. It's been widely reported in the past that Celts inserted a sell-on clause in the £11million deal that took Frimpong to Leverkusen in January 2021.

And the Daily Mail claim that clause will see the Hoops rake in 30 per cent of any profit the German champions make on Frimpong. There have been conflicting reports surrounding the transfer release clause in Frimpong's contract but the Mail claims a bid of £34.7m would allow Liverpool to hold talks with the player - which would see Celtic pocket an additional £7.1m windfall.
