Jesse Lingard believes Manchester United’s meeting with Arsenal on Saturday is “another free hit”.

Lingard replaced Paul Pogba during the opening minutes of United’s dimsal 4-0 loss away at Anfield on Tuesday, a performance that has been roundly criticised.

United travel to the Emirates for Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off with both teams still fighting for a place in the top four.

They, along with Tottenham and West Ham, could yet claim the coveted spot although all of the contenders appear to be suffering with inconsistent form.

Arsenal have lost their last three games heading into Wednesday’s visit to Chelsea while Spurs, who had started to hit form under Antonio Conte, were beaten at home by Brighton on Saturday.

West Ham, meanwhile, have only won two of their last six League games as attention surely turns to their Europa League semi-final with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Currently, Spurs are leading the race and sit three points ahead of Arsenal in fourth, although Mikel Arteta’s side have games in hand on both them and United.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Lingard said: “We’ve got a big game coming up. We’ve got to regroup fast this week, it’s a big three points on Saturday.

“It’s another free hit and we’ll go there with the mindset of winning, staying on the front foot, being intense, doing the basics and having that energy to go and win the game. We need to work hard first before you can start playing. Win your individual battles and then you’ll win the game hopefully.”
