Jessica Aguilar Tears ACL, Off UFC 197: Cormier vs. Jones 2 Fight Card

Jessica Aguilar is out of her scheduled UFC 197 bout with Juliana Lima.

Aguilar on Friday confirmed an earlier report by MMAFighting.com that she is injured and has had to pull out of the fight with Lima. She tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and will be undergoing surgery on Tuesday to repair the injury.

“I’m disappointed to announce that unfortunately I have had to withdraw from my upcoming fight with Juliana Lima at UFC 197 due to an injury sustained during training,” Aguilar wrote on Facebook.

“I tore my ACL and will be undergoing surgery this upcoming Tuesday to repair the injury and start the road to recovery. I have a great doctor and team around me, I'm confident that with their expertise, love and support, along with my determination to make a full recovery as fast as possible, I will be back in the Octagon before you know it.”

While Aguilar stopped short of providing a timeline for her recovery, the general timeframe for recovery from ACL surgery is from six to nine months.

A former Bellator contender and a former World Series of Fighting champion, Aguilar made her Octagon debut last August, losing to current UFC strawweight challenger Claudia Gadelha.

UFC 197 takes place on April 23 in Las Vegas. The headlining bout features light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier putting his belt on the line against Jon Jones.
