Jimmy Butler reveals that Kyle Lowry is his daughter’s godfather
Whenever the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat face off, Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler always look forward to competing against each other. But it doesn’t mean the two all-star’s don’t share a strong bond on and off the court.
On Tuesday, Butler appeared on The Artist and The Athlete with Lindsay Czarniak podcast and revealed Lowry as the godfather to his daughter while also naming the 35-year-old guard as his favorite player to compete against.
“Probably Kyle Lowry. Just because he’s one of my absolute best friends and he’s the godfather to my daughter,” he said. “As competitive as it is, we’re always laughing and joking around.”

Before commenting any further, the five-time all-star was quick to stop himself from violating the NBA tampering rules.
“I would say something else but then the NBA is going to look at this and be like ‘Oh my God, he’s tampering,’” Butler said.
During the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, Butler also expressed admiration for being on the same team as the six-time all-star guard. The two also played together on Team USA during the 2016 Summer Olympics.
“I appreciate it [All-Star game] a little bit more because I get to be on Kyle’s [Lowry] team. Anytime I’m on Kyle’s team, I’m winning in life,” Butler told TSN’s Kate Beirness.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard talks of the Heat’s interest in Lowry as his name was constantly brought up in trade talks in the months leading up to the March 25 trade deadline with both teams unable to come to an agreement.
Although a deal never came to fruition, it doesn’t mean that discussions won’t persist in the offseason with Lowry set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. It remains to be seen what Lowry’s future will be — whether it’s re-signing with Toronto or a sign-and-trade deal to a potential contender like the Philadelphia 76ers.
Meanwhile, the Raptors’ struggles continue with a loss against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday as they try to make a push for the play-in tournament with only 10 games left in the regular season.
