Jimmy Fallon Impersonates Ryan Lochte (Blue Hair and All) at VMAs

The biggest Olympians (Michael Phelps and the Fab Five) joined the biggest musicians at the 2016 MTV VMAs, but one medal winner was noticeably absent, Ryan Lochte. However, thanks to Jimmy Fallon, his presence was very much felt. The comedian impersonated Lochte on stage, poking fun at the robbery scandal that surrounded Lochte’s Rio stay.

“Is it too late now to say Sorry,” Fallon, dressed in a Team USA tracksuit, neon nikes and Lochte’s famous icy blue hair, said to the crowd, adding, “That’s my jam. It should be my jam. I wrote that song. I wrote it. I produced it. I directed all five nominees for video of the year.”

Fallon went on to take credit for the nominee’s videos.

“What an amazing year I had — it’s true. I’m the one who gave Adele the flip phone,” he quipped, adding, “I had a 30 way with Kanye West — I made lemonade with Queen Bey.”

Even Lochte’s teammate Michael Phelps couldn’t hide his surprise at the Fallon’s impersonation, reaching for his phone to snap a shot of the comedian.

Before presenting the Video of the Year moonman, Fallon cut deeper with the Lochte jabs, saying, “I couldn’t tell you, even if there was a gun to my head. And there isn’t. But I couldn’t choose .”

The 32-year-old swimmer’s Olympic run in Rio was embroiled in scandal after he fabricated a robbery story, which escalated into an international incident.“I’ve been thinking about it a lot, because I have a big heart, and I feel like let down a lot of people,” Lochte told PEOPLE. “I feel bad that I have let people down.

“It sucks that it was one of the main focuses of the Olympics,” he continued. “That’s what stinks. The media blew it up and talked about it. It got out of control, and this was all anyone could talk about. Everyone started watching it, and they didn’t watch the athletes. That’s another reason why I’m so hurt by it, because it took away from the games.”
