Joe Rogan: Ronda Rousey Needs a ‘Comprehensive Overhaul of Her Game'

Almost as soon as Holly Holm‘s foot hit Ronda Rousey‘s head and Rousey's head hit the canvas, questions about an immediate rematch began to swirl.

Rousey was the bulldozer that forced women's MMA into the Octagon and rolled over almost every other opponent she'd ever faced. Of course, she deserves an immediate rematch.

On the flip side of the coin, Rousey was dominated by Holm, even prior to the head-kick heard around the world. Holm made Rousey look almost amateurish, the way Rousey had done to most of her previous opponents. An immediate rematch should be out of the question.

Well, it's been several weeks since the fight, and now that UFC president Dana White has said that Rousey is going to get a rematch, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has come out on the other end of the argument, saying he doesn't believe Rousey is ready for an immediate rematch.

“For me, my bread and butter is me being honest. That's my business. My business is I gotta say what I really think. And what I really think is (Rousey) needs a comprehensive overhaul of her game,” Rogan said during a recent episode of his Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“I think she needs to look at how she's preparing and she needs to take into consideration all the problems that were exposed in that fight.”

Of course, part of the problem for Rousey when she fought Holm could have been matters outside of the Octagon. She has always been media savvy and never turns down a UFC request to do publicity for her fights, but aside from that, Rousey also has movie obligations, she wrote a memoir with her sister, has numerous high-level sponsor obligations, does photo shoots, has her mom berating her head coach in the media, and much, much more to consider.

Rogan pointed to all the distractions that Rousey faces, questioning whether or not they made sense. Rogan said that, depending upon who you ask, Rousey has made between 6 and 10 million dollars over the last couple of years. So why risk her fight career with these distractions when making that kind of money?

The Rousey machine rolled uncontested until she met a world-class-boxer-turned-mixed-martial-artist in Holm, who Rogan said, “has a fantastic real professional MMA camp filled with champions, potential champions, and world-class contenders.” Perhps more importantly, as Rogan pointed out, Holm has no “yes men” surrounding her.

In MMAWeekly/1World Online's ongoing poll, most people agree with Rogan, with 58-percent of more than 27,000 voters saying that, after getting knocked out, Rousey should not get an immediate rematch.

Depending on the timeline for her return, it appears that, regardless of what Rogan or anyone else thinks, Rousey, if she wants it, will get the rematch.
