Joe Taylor opens up on Huddersfield Town debut and long unbeaten League One run
Joe Taylor said it was “very nice to grab a goal on debut” after netting in Huddersfield Town’s comeback 2-2 draw at Blackpool on Saturday.
The new recruit got his goalscoring tally up and running for the Terriers at the weekend, having been immediately brought into the starting line-up alongside fellow signing Dion Charles.
Taylor showed his capabilities with a smart takedown and finish two minutes after the interval at Bloomfield Road, a goal that halved the half-time deficit, shortly before Brodie Spencer levelled the scores with a curling effort.

Reflecting on his strike, Taylor told HTTV: “Obviously it’s very nice to grab a goal on debut. I’m saying that like I’ve done that before, I’ve never done it before. Given it took me a while last time I was in this league, it’s nice to score in the first game.
“When you don’t play as much football, I think the main thing is you lose fitness and that match sharpness, but I think in and around the box, that’s something that will stick with you always. I was just thankful I was in the right place at the right time, it was a good first touch, and thankfully it just hit the target.”
Town found themselves trailing at the break after goals from Rob Apter and Albie Morgan put the hosts in the driving seat. Taylor praised his side for their response after the restart, as well as Michael Duff and his coaching staff for the mentality they’ve instilled in the players during the unbeaten run.
“We went in at half-time, we knew we weren’t at our best, but the gaffer made it clear that he needed a reaction in the second half. I thought the boys were brilliant for the first five minutes obviously, grabbing two early goals,” the recruit added.
“I think it’s testament to the coaching staff and the gaffer, and what he’s built here. He asked for a reaction, and it shows you the sort of mentality that we’ve got in the dressing room at the minute. Obviously extending that run to 16 games is unbelievable, but you’ve got to look towards the next game and continuing that run.”
