Romania's Fed Cup captain Ilie Nastase sparked chaos during a match against Great Britain on Saturday (22 April) which resulted in him to be escorted off the court.
Great Britain's Johanna Konta was left in tears by the incident but rallied superbly to defeat her Romanian opponent Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-3 and level the tie in Constanta.
After winning the opening set, Konta trailed Cirstea 2-1 in the second set of their second rubber match of their World Group II play-off when the disturbance arose.
According to Press Association, Nastase was heard saying to the umpire "What is your f*****g problem?", before calling Konta and Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong "f*****g b*****s."
Nastase initially tried to take a seat in the stands after he was ordered off the court before he was eventually escorted back to the locker rooms.
Romania's Simona Halep attempted to calm the crowd with Konta left visibly upset as play resumed. The British no. 1 dropped serve in the next game to fall 3-1 behind, prompting the umpire to suspend play for 25 minutes.
Once the match resumed on court, Konta took control of the contest once again, winning the next five games to level the tie between the two countries at 1-1. Earlier on Saturday morning, Simona Halep's win over Heather Watson saw Romania take the lead in the tie with her 6-4 6-1 win.
The Fed Cup match between Romania and Great Britain has been marred by Nastase's behaviour. On Friday, he found himself embroiled in a racism storm after being heard making a derogatory comment about Serena Williams' unborn child. He was overheard telling his teammates in Romanian: "Let's see what colour it has. Chocolate with milk?"
Williams revealed earlier this week that she is 20 weeks pregnant with fiance Alexis Ohanian.
On Saturday morning, Nastase was involved in a row with Press Association Sport reporter Eleanor Crooks, calling her "stupid" for reporting his alleged racist comments made the previous day.
