Former world champion John Parrott has announced his retirement from competitive snooker after losing in the Seniors World Championship. The 1991 champion was easily beaten by Nigel Bond in the last 16 on Friday and immediately announced the end of his career afterwards. Parrott then paid tribute to the crowd in the Crucible as he held aloft the trophy he won more than three decades ago. It was a bad night for Stephen Hendry too, with him dominated by Welshman Lee Walker. Hendry, who is the joint most successful player of all time at the Crucible, was never in contention as he sank to a 3-0 defeat. There was better news for Jimmy White though, as he overpowered Egyptian Wael Talaat 3-0. The 1997 world champion Ken Doherty is also safely into the quarter-finals having eased to a 3-1 win over Wayne Cooper.

Doherty will now face Walker, while White will play the winner of Saturday's meeting between 1986 world champion Joe Johnson and Jamaican Rory McLeod.
