The troubled free-agent quarterback is drawing interest from New Orleanscoach Sean Payton as a potential backup for quarterback Drew Brees,NFL Network reported Thursday.

According to the report, Manziel and Payton had breakfast duringSuper Bowl weekend in Houstonanddiscussed Manziel'spotential return to football.While Manziel has no chance at earning thestarting spot, Brees could serve as a valuable veteran mentor for the former Browns first-round pick.

Manziel, who was released by Cleveland last March,hasn't played since December 2015 andhas a reportedsix-game suspension hanging over his head for a misdemeanor assault case. Despite the 2012Heisman Trophy winner's manylegal issues, Manziel claims to have his life together and is focused on getting back on the field.

Still, the reported interest he's drawing from teams around the NFL has yet to turn into a contract offer.
