Gary Johnson has made a surprise return to Yeovil for a second spell as manager.

Johnson replaces Terry Skiverton - who will now act as assistant manager - seven years after leaving for Bristol City.

"Yeovil Town Football Club have announced the appointment of Gary Johnson as their new first team manager," said a statement on the Glovers' official website.

"Chairman John Fry and the board of directors made the decision following a disappointing run of results and look upon the appointment of Gary as a means of enhancing the management and coaching structure.

"Terry Skiverton will now assume the role of assistant manager to Gary Johnson."

Since leaving the Glovers in 2005 - after guiding them from the Conference to League One - Johnson has endured an up-and-down career.

He guided Bristol City to the brink of the Barclays Premier League in 2008, when they were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Hull.

The ensuing years have not been as successful for the 56-year-old and, after unsuccessful spells at Peterborough and Northampton followed his departure from the Robins, is now back at Huish Park.

Johnson will take charge of Tuesday's clash with Sheffield United as the Glovers look to move out of the League One relegation zone.
