Joker 2 wraps filming with new look at Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn

Filming for Joker: Folie à Deux has officially wrapped, with director Todd Phillips sharing new images of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in front of the camera.

Confirming the news in a post on his Instagram account, Phillips praised the cast and crew for their work on set.

"That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer," he wrote. "From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together."

The new image of Gaga as the Joker's infamous paramour Harley Quinn/Dr. Harleen Quinzel sees her donning smudged make-up and standing in what could be an elevator — similar to the one we see in Arthur Fleck/the Joker's apartment block during the 2019 film.

Previously released images of Gaga's Harley Quinn have shown her sporting similar make-up alongside her trademark red and black harlequin-inspired outfit.

As well as Gaga and Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his first outing as the DC villain, the film will see Zazie Beetz return as Arthur's neighbour Sophie Dumond. They'll be joined by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Jacob Lofland, who star in yet undisclosed roles.

Set to be released in October 2024, Folie à Deux will be a musical of sorts, following the story of the Joker's time in Arkham State Hospital and his first meeting with Harley.

Beetz recently touched on the film being a musical, saying it makes "perfect sense".

"I wasn't really surprised by that. Todd has always had a creative approach to the character [of the Joker]," she said.

"Singing and dancing is quite a cathartic experience for me. I was going through a really, really difficult time at one point in my life, and I just started dancing and crying by myself. And that was an expression that matched where I was at that moment.

"So I can see Arthur, who is feeling and experiencing so much, dancing and singing about it. He's the Joker, so I think it makes sense to me."

Joker: Folie à Deux is out in cinemas on October 4, 2024. Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now.
