Jon Jones Granted Release from Jail After Admitting to Probation Violation

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was granted his release from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., on Thursday after accepting a plea deal relating to a charge of violating his probation.

Jones is currently on probation stemming from an April 2015 felony hit and run incident. He has since been pulled over twice by Albuquerque police, once for driving 75 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone, and most recently, on March 24, he was pulled over for drag racing and received five citations.

The most recent incident was aggravated by a heated conversation with the issuing officer, as Jones was caught on policy bodycam video being belligerent, calling the officer a “(expletive) liar” and a “pig.”

Jones' attorney mentioned in Thursday morning's court appearance that Jones and his legal team believe that the charges against him “are bogus” and that he was profiled.

After spending the past three days in jail, however, Jones accepted the probation department's plea deal, admitting to a probation violation, according to a report by Albuquerque's KRQE News 13.

Judge Michael Martinez approved additional conditions to Jones' current probation, which included Jones being required to take a driver improvement course and an anger management class, as well as 60 additional hours of community service on top of the 72 hours of community service already required by his initial probation.

The judge declined to impose a 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew, as requested by the probation department, but added his own stipulation that Jones must not drive at all without his probation officer's approval.

While Jones was still in custody as of the time of publication, he is expected to be released on Thursday.
