Jon Jones Willing to Fight at Heavyweight to Save UFC 197

Jon Jones Willing to Fight at Heavyweight to Save UFC 197

While Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Neil Magny have fortified their careers by facing anyone, anytime, on any notice, Jon Jones is not known for instantly shifting gears. With Daniel Cormier out of their UFC 197 main event rematch with Jones due to injury, it appears the former champ has changed his tune.

Jones was lambasted by fans and the UFC when he was unwilling to accept a last-minute change of opponent in order to save the UFC 151 main event when Dan Henderson had to withdraw from the fight. He turned down an offer to fight Chael Sonnen, and the UFC subsequently cancelled the event.

Cormier, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, reportedly had to pull out of the UFC 197 main event on Friday. The fight was supposed to be Jones' opportunity to regain the belt that he never lost. He was stripped of the title following a felony hit and run accident in April of 2015.

With Cormier out of the fight, Jones appears ready to accept a new opponent on three weeks notice.

“Hey, you all know I'm not in to taking last-minute fights. It's not the way me an my trainers do things, but this last year has been real crazy and I feel like I owe my fans so much. So UFC, what do you got, a heavyweight, light heavyweight? It doesn't matter. Let's keep this going, send ‘em my way.”
