Jonny Bairstow followed Dawid Malan to a century at the Waca and celebrated in the best possible way - by headbutting his helmet.

Bairstow (119) allowed himself a cheeky nod to his infamous bar-room welcome for Cameron Bancroft back at the start of England's tour, as he celebrated his maiden Ashes hundred.

Upon reaching a first Test ton for 19 months, he gently banged his head against his England helmet three times, proving he at least has a sense of humour.

The original headbutting incident, albeit trivial, led to intense sledging from the Aussies and embarrassment for Bairstow and England as Bancroft and Steve Smith giggled about the 'stitch-up' in a memorable press conference.

However, Bairstow proved he has moved on and it was a magnificent innings, making a mockery of the decision to drop him to seven for the first two Tests.

"It might be his best innings," Geoffrey Boycott told BBC Test Match Special. "The pressure on the England team at 2-0 down and with events off the field was huge. The batsmen had failed before this innings. So to play without a blemish, a nick, a chance - he's batted beautifully. If he got up the order a bit he might get a few more hundreds too."
