Jonny Hayes wins Celtic coach job race after Aberdeen confirm winger exit

Jonny Hayes is ready to join Celtic in a coaching role after Aberdeen confirmed his exit earlier this morning.

The Dons bid an emotional farewell to the club legend who left following two separate stints in the Granite City despite being offered the opportunity to remain at Pittodrie in a coaching position. The club provided the chance to stay and work with their youth academy but confirmed in their statement that he'd opted to depart for a job elsewhere.

It's believed that will be at Parkhead where the Hoops have been on the lookout for an under-18s coach as well as someone to work with Stephen McManus and the B team following Darren O'Dea's promotion to player pathway manager.

Hayes, 36, beat the likes of Charlie Mulgrew to the job after Football Scotland told you the ex-defender had also had two rounds of interviews by the club as he looked for his first steps into coaching.
