The agent of Chelsea star Jorginho has revealed what his client’s current priority is, as the midfielder continues to be linked with a Stamford Bridge exit.
The former Napoli star’s contract runs out next summer and recent reports suggest he turned down an extension with the Blues, as Barcelona and AC Milan continue to be linked with a move.
The Italy international, along with Blues teammate N’Golo Kante, has been tipped to depart the club – with Graham Potter potentially looking to revamp an aging central midfield next summer.
Jorginho is free to sign a pre-contract with both Barca and Milan in January.
However, his agent, Joao Santos, insists his client’s priority is to extend his stay with Chelsea.
Santos told Relevo in Spain: “It is not true that I’ve met [Barcelona director] Mateu Alemany.
“Our priority is to extend with Chelsea; that’s the only club I’ve talked to in the last few weeks. Jorginho’s future is at Chelsea.”
The player himself also commented on his future recently, telling The 5th Stand: “I’m very happy at the moment, we’re all very focused on what we need to do.
“I’m enjoying life here. I’m enjoying working with everyone and I think everybody says the same thing. It’s enjoyable to be at Chelsea.”
The 30-year-old joined Chelsea from Napoli in a €63m deal in 2018, following Maurizio Sarri to west London.
Jorginho has scored 29 goals in 204 appearances for the club, winning a Champions League and a Europa League in that time. He was also part of the Italy side that won Euro 2020.
Kante also tipped for Chelsea exit
Meanwhile, Kante’s exit appears to be becoming likelier by the day.
Kante is into the final year of his contract. Chelsea, however, may be cautious about extending due to his ongoing injury issues.
The France international has also been linked with Barcelona. However, Juventus have also recently emerged as contenders for the 31-year-old.
Ultimately, the choice over Kante’s future will be his own. He will also have to consider where each of his suitors are in a sporting sense. Indeed, Juventus have been inconsistent so far this season, so their Champions League status may be at risk.
It may be preferential for Kante to wait and assess all his options, despite the chance to sign a pre-contract agreement with anyone abroad from January 1.
Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday evening when they face Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
