Jos Buttler hit his first ever T20 hundred as he broke the record for the highest IPL score by an Englishman while in action for Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.

Buttler’s 124 off just 64 balls was also the highest total in Royals franchise history and came off just 64 balls as they set Chennai Super Kings a target of 221 for victory.

The 30-year-old scored only 32 off his first 30 balls but then bludgeoned 92 off his next 34, the knock including 11 fours and eight sixes.

Remarkably, one of England’s greatest ever white-ball batsman had never before reached three figures in the shortest form of the game, and afterwards spoke of his relief.

“I didn’t find it easy and haven’t been in my best form for a while now,” he told Star Sports. “Playing and finding a way to hang in there to get back in form and give myself form. I got better as the innings went on.

“I spent the most of my career in the middle order, where hundreds are not easy to come by.I can finally stop getting Alastair Cook telling me, ‘I’ve got one more T20 hundred than you’.”
