Jose Mourinho's signings since returning to England: how many have succeeded?
Jose Mourinho is willing to jettison Eric Bailly just two-and-a-bit years after signing him and Marcos Rojo in order to create space in his squad for a shiny new centre-back.
Given he wanted to get rid of the now in-form Anthony Martial in the summer, the Manchester United hierarchy may be reluctant to agree to selling Bailly, who was one of the club's better players last season. There is also the fact that many of those signed by Mourinho haven't hit the heights that their price tags suggested they might.
Here, we take a look at ever major signing (sorry, Mario Pasalic and Nathan) Mourinho has made since returning to England with Chelsea in 2013, and judge whether each has been a success or a failure, or if that is yet to be decided.

Manchester United
Eric Bailly
Mourinho's first Old Trafford signing, Bailly had seemed like he would go on to have a successful United career, but he has fallen out of favour this season and could now be headed for the exit.
Verdict: Jury's out
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Never truly suited to Mourinho's style of play, and his signing always seemed rather baffling as a result. Went to Arsenal in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez.
Verdict: Failure
Paul Pogba
Has been utterly brilliant at times but his big performances have just been too rare to justify his then world record transfer fee. He is almost constantly being linked with a move away and it wouldn't be all that surprising if he left before long.
Verdict: Jury's out
Victor Lindelof
Had a very mixed first season in England but is now one of Mourinho's first-choice centre-backs. However, he is playing regularly in a defence that is leaking goals terribly and if Mourinho gets his way and signs a new centre-back in January it will be interesting to see whether Lindelof retains his place in the team.

Romelu Lukaku
An interesting one. 16 Premier League goals in his first season looks like a decent return, but when you consider that he scored seven in his first seven games, perhaps that final tally was actually a little underwhelming. Just doesn't play as well for Mourinho as he does under Roberto Martinez.
Verdict: Jury's out
Nemanja Matic
A barnstorming success in his first season but all of a sudden is being overrun with worrying frequency. It's impossible to say what exactly has gone wrong, but something is awry for Matic.
Verdict: Success, just about.
Alexis Sanchez
Columnist Jamie Carragher wrote in these pages that Sanchez was 'a big-money buy who is past his peak', and given the continued lack of any impact whatsoever in his game, it is hard to argue with that statement. A free transfer but jaw-dropping wages that simply cannot be justified.
Verdict: Failure
Fred
Mourinho said Pogba's absence from Sunday's Manchester derby meant he had to play Marouane Fellaini in midfield, apparently unaware he had signed a £50m central midfielder in Fred in the summer. It was a sign of how little he rates the Brazilian.
Verdict: Failure
Diogo Dalot
Described as the best full-back in his age group by Mourinho this summer, but not trusted to play in a game of any real significance yet. Cost nearly £20m, hasn't played a minute in the league.
Verdict: Failure
Lee Grant
Has only played 20 minutes in the Carabao Cup defeat to Derby.
Verdict: Not featured enough to judge.
Chelsea
Andre Schurrle
Did fairly well as an impact sub at first under Mourinho but was swiftly cast aside and is now across west London at struggling Fulham. Hasn't fulfilled his potential.
Verdict: Failure
Marco van Ginkel
Marco van Ginkel is STILL at Chelsea, more than five years after signing and having played only twice in the Premier League. He has had loan spells at AC Milan, Stoke and PSV, but couldn't find a new club this summer.
Verdict: Failure
Willian
Perhaps the best signing of Mourinho's time back in England, Willian is a wonderfully gifted player but also one that works hard defensively, too. Now one of England's best attacking players.
Verdict: Success
Christian Atsu
Once highly rated, can now barely get a game at Newcastle.
Verdict: Failure
Nemanja Matic
A huge success back at Stamford Bridge where he won two Premier League titles and a couple of cups.
Verdict: Success
Mohamed Salah
Has become one of the best forwards in world football but, importantly, not under Mourinho. It is now seen as one of the biggest failures of Mourinho's career that he decided Salah was not good enough and let him leave on loan.
Verdict: Failure
Kurt Zouma
A good quality centre-back with bags of potential, but one who stagnated a little at Stamford Bridge. Won two titles but barely played in either season. Went to Stoke, and is now at Everton.
Verdict: Failure
Diego Costa
Fired Chelsea to the title in his first season in England, and stuck around for another one two years later. Some signing.
Verdict: Success
Cesc Fabregas
What a coup it was to get Fabregas to Chelsea, and he quickly struck up a fine partnership with Costa. 18 assists in his first year back in England and with it a first Premier League title.
Verdict: Success
Filipe Luis
A very good left-back who never really got the chance to show what he can do in England. Only stuck around for a year.
Verdict: Failure
Loic Remy
Such an odd signing, though he did score seven goals in the title-winning 2014/15 campaign which, for £10.5m, isn't a terrible deal on Mourinho's part.
Verdict: Success, just about.
Juan Cuadrado
Verdict: Another player who just wasn't given enough of a chance by Mourinho but has succeeded elsewhere. Now a key cog in Juventus' forward line.
Radamel Falcao
One of the great Premier League flops. And Mourinho should already have known something was wrong with the Colombian from his poor spell at Old Trafford a year earlier. Was signed anyway and did next to nothing.
Verdict: Failure
Asmir Begovic
Signed as back-up goalkeeper but was forced to play 17 times in his first season after Thibaut Courtois got injured and was part of the team that fell away terribly before Mourinho was sacked.
Verdict: Failure
Abdul Rahman Baba
Signed for an initial £14m. Barely played. Now in a second season on loan at Schalke.
Verdict: Failure
Pedro
Didn't have enough time under Mourinho to have much success, but went on to become one of the most important players at Stamford Bridge.
Verdict: Success
Kenedy
Tipped for big things, and is still a Chelsea player, but has had a few disciplinary problems and is now on loan at Newcastle.
Verdict: Jury's out
Papy Djilobodji
Who? Exactly.
Never played a league game for Chelsea, went to Sunderland, was sacked by Sunderland, and now doesn't have a club.
Verdict: Failure
