Josef Bursik joins Hibs as Club Brugge goalkeeper arrives on loan transfer

Hibs have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Josef Bursik on loan from Club Brugge.

The stopper, 23, has been at Brugge since 2023 having joined from Stoke City. He made 50 appearances for the Potters in the EFL Championship and has plenty of experience to bring to David Gray's squad as they look to replace David Marshall who decided to retire and join Malky Mackay's staff.

Head coach Gray admits he's been chuffed to land the former England under-21s star as he explained how vital the scouting system has been in tracking the goalie for some time. “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Josef to the Football Club," Gray told the club website. "He’s someone we’ve been monitoring for a long time due to his technical ability, pedigree, and the positive character references we’ve received. My coaching staff and I are looking forward to working with him.”

Sporting director Mackay added: “I’m really pleased Josef has decided that Hibs are the Club to showcase his talents. He is a top goalkeeper and a fine young man, and we look forward to seeing him at Easter Road.

"I’d like to thank Club Brugge for the smooth transition of Josef’s loan deal and wish them the very best in the coming season.”
