Premier League side Man Utd are hoping to sign Hoffenheim left-back David Raum in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Germany international joined Hoffenheim from Greuther Furth, who had just won promotion to the Bundesliga, in 2021 on a free transfer.

Raum had an outstanding first campaign for Hoffenheim last year, providing three goals and 11 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances from the left.

Those performances have seen him linked with a host of clubs, including Man Utd, Newcastle, West Ham, Man City and Borussia Dortmund.

And it now looks like the interest from Man Utd is serious with Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claiming the Red Devils ‘wants’ Raum this summer.

Plettenberg insists that ‘talks about’ the 24-year-old ‘have taken place’ and that they are ‘ongoing and good’ but there is ‘still a long way to go’ to seal a transfer.

The journalist claims the fee is likely to be between €30-35m and he has been told by sources that the deal “can happen” this summer.

He adds that Dortmund could ‘become hot if they sell’ Nico Schulz or Raphael Guerreiro, presumably meaning they will pursue a deal for Raum.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Noel Whelan expects Man Utd and Barcelona to find a “middle ground” soon in negotiations over Frenkie de Jong.

Whelan told Football Insider: “You’d think they would want to do the deal.

“Let’s be honest, they need the money at that football club. Man United need midfielders. It is a triangle that would make sense.

“Barcelona will not want to let him go for less than he’s worth though. He is still very young. He has his best football ahead of him.

“They need to find a compromise. Man United need the player and Barcelona need the money.

“£50million is a healthy offer but when you look at someone like De Jong, an international who can command the midfield area, he’s probably worth a lot more.

“I’m sure they will find a middle ground at some point. I think somewhere around £58million.”
