Jude Bellingham called out Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher after helping Real Madrid win the Champions League.

Saturday night saw Madrid claim a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. scored the goals in the second half to secure a 15th European Cup for the La Liga giants.

Bellingham played the majority of the contest at Wembley to win his first Champions League trophy. The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer before he completed a £115 million move from Dortmund to Madrid.

Carragher was part of CBS Sports' coverage of the Champions League final and interviewed Bellingham after the final whistle. The former Reds defender listed Bellingham's achievements before posing a question to the England international.

"Jude, you've been voted the best player in La Liga [and] it's your first year at Real Madrid. You've now won the Champions League.

"The Euros are in a few weeks, if you bring the Euros home you're Ballon d'Or [winner] aren't you?

"What do you think, I mean I'm voting for you."

Bellingham took a moment before giving his response, where he made a joke at Carragher's expense. The 20-year-old replied: "That means a lot to me, to be fair it's the first time he's backed somebody from Madrid for the last few years."

The last few years have seen players from Liverpool and Real Madrid nominated for the Ballon d'Or award. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have previously been in the shortlist for the accolade but both have missed out.

Bellingham is likely to be a candidate for this year's award, which was won by Lionel Messi last year and Karim Benzema back in 2022. It remains to be seen if any Liverpool player will be nominated for the honour, with the winner set to be announced in October.
