Jude Bellingham cheekily hit back at Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher after playing a pivotal role in Real Madrid's Champions League triumph. The stage was set at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, where Madrid clinched a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund to lift their 15th European Cup.

Second-half strikes from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. sealed the deal for the Spanish titan. Bellingham, who had been heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool before his blockbuster transfer from Dortmund to Madrid, put in a stellar performance to claim his maiden Champions League medal with Jurgen Klopp watching on from the stands.

The 20-year-old midfielder has quickly become a sensation in La Liga, and his display at Wembley only added to his growing reputation. Post-match, CBS Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had the chance to chat with Bellingham.

Carragher, highlighting Bellingham's remarkable season, said: "Jude, you've been voted the best player in La Liga [and] it's your first year at Real Madrid. You've now won the Champions League."

With the Euros just around the corner, Carragher floated a tantalizing prospect for England fans: "The Euros are in a few weeks... if you bring the Euros home you're Ballon d'Or [winner] aren't you?". Carragher, showing his support, added: "What do you think? I mean, I'm voting for you."

Bellingham, with a twinkle in his eye, delivered a witty retort that gently ribbed the former Anfield stalwart. He answered: "That means a lot to me. To be fair, it's the first time he's backed somebody from Madrid for the last few years!"

In recent seasons, Liverpool and Real Madrid players have frequently been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award and have gone head-to-head in a couple of Champions League finals, with the Reds losing on both occasions. The likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have made it to the Ballon d'Or shortlist, albeit without clinching the top spot.

This year, Bellingham is tipped as a potential nominee for the award, previously won by Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema in 2022. Whether any Liverpool player will make the cut this time around remains to be seen, with the winner due to be revealed in October. says: Bellingham was a player that Jurgen Klopp would have loved at Liverpool and it was always clear why that was the case. He was relatively quiet in the Champions League final but there is no shame in that after the season he has had. He is still only 20 and the decision to retire his shirt number at Birmingham City is no longer looking quite so mad!
