SWIMMERS from all across the country made a splash in Workington last weekend as they competed in their 13th President's Gala.

The gala, which was hosted by Workington Swimming Club at Workington Leisure Centre, ran over the weekend of September 23 - 25.

Swimmers from far and wide attended the event, bringing swimming enthusiasts from Isle of Man all the way to Barnsley to their Workington pool.

Swimmers from Carlisle, Cockermouth, Barrow, Copeland, Kendal, Ulverston, Penrith, Isle of Man, Atherton and Leigh, Hoylake, Carnforth, Leyland Barr, Preston also attended the competition.

Workington Swimming Club was represented by swimmers from ages 9 up to 26 years old, with each swimmer doing their bit and making their club proud.

The weekend competition also provided an opportunity for some newly-qualified swimming judges to to spend some time poolside and gain some valuable experience in the judging role.

These new judges will be able to support the club and potentially other clubs across the county when future events take place.

Events ranged from 50m swims up to 1500m across all 4 swim strokes for competitors.

Kristianne Flitton, on behalf of the Workington ASC, said: "Every swimmer produced some fantastic swims, with many obtaining times good enough to qualify them for both the county competition in January/February 2023 and North-West Regionals which are due to take place in spring 2023.

"Workington Swimming Club prides itself on being inclusive and welcomes swimmers of all abilities.

Two young swimmers, Alexa Atkinson and Jessica Lister, from the club will also be representing the Cumbria Swim Team at the inter-county competition in Sheffield on October 2.
