Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been lined up for a return to club coaching as an assistant to Julian Nagelsmann at Paris St-Germain.

Nagelsmann, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea this summer, is in talks with PSG over replacing Christophe Galtier as manager.

Should he get the job, then Nagelsmann wants Henry to join him in Paris as part of his coaching staff – even though the pair have never worked together before.

It is believed that Henry’s presence would be welcomed by PSG star Kylian Mbappe, as the pair share a good relationship, and would also give Nagelsmann’s coaching team a French flavour.

There is no previous link between the pair, but Nagelsmann is thought to believe that Henry would be a positive addition to his staff and would be valuable to him making a fast start to life in France.

Henry most recently worked on the Belgium coaching staff for the World Cup in Qatar and has been linked with the United States national team head coach job.

The former striker was head coach of PSG’s Ligue 1 rivals Monaco and he also spent just over a year in charge of MLS club Montreal Impact before standing down because of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions.

It is unclear whether Henry wants to return to coaching as Nagelsmann’s assistant and the offer relies on the German getting the PSG job.

But it could be seen as a good route back into coaching and offer Henry more experience of working alongside a top coach in one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Having dropped out of the running for both the Spurs and Chelsea posts, Nagelsmann is thought to be interested in the PSG job after being sacked by Bayern Munich in March.

PSG are leading the race to sign midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Portuguese club Sporting after Chelsea stepped back from negotiations.

It is understood that PSG have offered to pay what Chelsea feel is above the market rate for Ugarte and the Premier League club have refused to match the offer.
