Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly put a Leeds United summer signing on to his wanted list, according to a well-known MLS coach.
The Reds are turning their attentions to the next two transfer windows with Klopp especially keen to bolster his midfield. Indeed, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are likely to leave on frees. And while neither have been regulars this season, they may also be facing the potential exit of veteran James Milner – 37 in January – too.
In addition, both Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcanara are the wrong side of 30, with the duo both succumbing to injuries this season. As a result, it’s easy to understand why Klopp is so keen to bring in some new midfielders.
Top of his list of targets is Borussia Dortmund teenager Jude Bellingham. The England star, though, will not come cheap with a price tag in the region of £130m on his head.
Liverpool do have other targets in mind, however. And while the club are seemingly up for sale and looking to attract new investment, FSG have made their intentions clear ahead of the January window.
Further down the line, though, Klopp is also said to have taken a liking to a recent Leeds United signing.
The Whites underwent a busy summer of investment themselves, bringing in a total of nine new players. And while those arrivals were funded by the sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, Leeds hope they will not walk quite so close a relegation tightrope this time around.
Among those to arrive, it is their two USA players in Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson, who have perhaps had the most significant impact.
Klopp likes the look of Brenden Aaronson
Adams signed in a £20m deal from RB Leipzig, the tigerish midfielder quickly impressing in midfield.
Aaronson, meanwhile, arrived from RB Salzburg, having impressed during their run to the Champions League last 16 in 2021/22.
The 22-year-old is part of the United States squad to play at the World Cup. As a result, he is potentially in line to face England on Friday November 25.
Having scored once and assisted twice for Leeds, he’s already making an impression in the Premier League. And while his numbers might be better had more of the chances he creates been put away, he is a player hugely appreciated at Leeds.
And while Leeds have only won four games this season, one of those gameduring a 2-1 win at Anfield.
On that day, Aaronson’s work-rate and movement caused a whole number of issues for the Reds.
And now Jim Curtin – the current coach of MLS side Philadelphia Union – claims Aaronson is on Klopp’s wishlist.
“To watch Aaronson play against Liverpool, you could tell by Jurgen Klopp’s body language every time Brenden did anything,” said Curtin as quoted by MLS expert Tom Bogert on Twitter.
“Look, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s interested in that kid after how he played against him.”
Leeds paid around £25m for Aaronson and the star looks a shrewd addition. If he continues to develop as he has, Leeds will one day likely face a fight to retain his services.
However, his deal at Leeds currently runs to 2027. As such, the Whites will have zero intentions of allowing Aaronson to depart.
