It has now been 34 days since Jurgen Klopp took charge of his last match as Liverpool manager.

Embarking on a sabbatical from football, the German is already enjoying quite the summer. Highlights include returning to Anfield last week for the first concert of Taylor Swift’s three-day Eras tour at the Reds’ famous ground, but he’s also attended both the Champions League final at Wembley and Germany’s opening match of Euro 2024 in Munich.

Of course his sabbatical is only temporary, with Klopp already confirming he intends to take at least a year out from the game. But while he has insisted he will work again, he has already conceded that, as things stand, he doesn’t see himself “continuing at the same pace as before”.

Having created an Instagram account prior to his Anfield departure, the 57-year-old has offered plenty of updates on his life after Liverpool over the past month, with supporters all making the same point whenever the German is sighted.

“Doesn’t he look well!” It’s clear a sabbatical is already having the desired effect for Klopp with the German, who shared that he was ‘running out of energy’ when publicising his decision to leave the Reds, looking happy and refreshed just weeks after walking away from the managerial hot pit.

One such image of Klopp started to spread on social media on Saturday, of the former Liverpool boss looking content while wearing a Germany shirt at their Euro 2024 opener against Scotland earlier this month, posing for a picture while seated next to German TikTok star Maurizio Pastore. The influencer posted it himself on his Instagram account at the time on June 14, with it pinned at the top of his public profile, but it's only now over a week into the tournament that it is being shared by Reds supporters.

But after a first glance noting how well Klopp looks, something else is striking. After nine years as Liverpool manager, isn’t it a little odd to see the German wearing the colours of another side?

Now obviously Germany is his country and inevitably who Klopp is supporting at Euro 2024. He has snubbed punditry offers during the European Championships so he can enjoy taking in the action as a supporter as his homeland hosts the tournament. It won’t be the first time he has worn their colours and surely won’t be the last.

But for Reds supporters it is perhaps also a glimpse into the future. When Klopp does end his sabbatical to return to football, he will wear the colours of another side.

Of course, it could even be Germany. While a German man wearing a Germany shirt at a Germany match in Germany certainly does not equal Klopp becoming next Germany manager, he has still long been touted as a future manager of their national side, with international management perhaps providing the ‘different pace’ that he would be seeking.

Yet Julian Naglesmann recently signed a contract extension until the 2026 World Cup. If Klopp does wait for the Germany job, his sabbatical will likely be longer than first envisaged.

Otherwise, he will return to football elsewhere sooner, donning the colours of a different side entirely. For Liverpool supporters it will certainly be the strangest of sights after the last nine years. But after this tiny glimpse of Klopp in Munich, it is something that Reds will have to get used to.
