Jurgen Klopp: People thought Liverpool were an easy touch but we are still alive
Jurgen Klopp roared his Liverpool team are “still alive” after a stunning 7-0 win over rivals Manchester United.
After a difficult season, Klopp’s side appear to be hitting form and a huge victory against United at Anfield made it five consecutive Premier League wins.
Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez all bagged braces before Roberto Firmino scored the seventh in the dying embers of the game.
The win takes Liverpool above Newcastle into fifth and only three points behind an inconsistent Tottenham team currently occupying the last place in the top four.
While the idea of turning their Champions League tie with Real Madrid around looks remote following a 5-2 loss at Anfield, there is little doubt such a big win over United sends a message.
Klopp believes Premier League rivals have viewed his team as something of a soft touch at points this season but backed his players to kick on and reach their previous heights.
“A few months ago everyone thought it was a good moment to play Liverpool - you can’t say it publicly but everyone thought it - because they felt we were struggling a lot but now it is less of a good moment, we look much more like ourselves,” he said.
“It is important that everyone knows we are here and we are still alive.”
