Jurgen Klopp readying final decision on Liverpool midfielder who ‘could’ leave, with signings mooted
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fabio Carvalho “could go on loan” next season, despite the fact the manager has “no plans” to let the midfielder go yet.
The Reds’ midfield will have a new look next season. Indeed, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner will all be departing the club in the summer.
Milner, especially, is a player that the Reds will want to replace in the first team. The 37-year-old has made 30 Premier League appearances this season.
As such, with a fixture of the side departing, along with a few other assets, it would not be a surprise if the Reds were to recruit well in the centre of the park.
A number of midfield options have been mooted for the summer. Jude Bellingham was the top name on that list, before Klopp’s side pulled out, prioritising a fuller rebuild.
That further suggests there will be a number of incomings in the side this summer and it would be unsurprising if the midfield was the priority.
Ryan Gravenberch, Joao Palhinha and Alexis Mac Allister – the latter of which has apparently agreed to join in a £69.4million deal – are also linked with the Anfield outfit.
As such, the midfield could look almost unrecognisable next season.
Carvalho ‘could go on loan’ in summer
There might yet be more changes afoot, too. Indeed, Klopp has suggested one of his recent midfield signings, Carvalho, could be heading out of the door.
“I think there is a possibility Fabio [Carvalho] could go on loan, but we will see,” he said in his pre-match press conference (quoted by Liverpool Echo).
“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. His work ethic will give him a fantastic career.
“His reactions in a row [to not playing], I’ve never seen before.”
Indeed, Carvalho has sat on the bench for a lot of the season, playing just 13 times in the Premier League so far, and only four of those appearances came from the start.
Loan may be best course of action
“There is no plans for loans, we want to keep them if we can give them the opportunity to play,” Klopp added.
While the manager suggests he doesn’t want to let Carvalho go, that he’s entertaining the idea suggests there will be reason for him to move on for a period.
Indeed, should he not be in line for many minutes next season, a move would be the best course of action.
Klopp might not be able to guarantee him a lot of minutes if he gets his desired targets. Carvalho’s role was not a massive one this season, and the midfield could filled with much more quality soon, so that could remain the same.
The midfielder is clearly a good asset, hence Klopp not wanting to see him leave on loan. However, it could certainly be a good thing for his development if he was to move on, rather than continuing to sit on the bench, given forcing his way into the reckoning for consistent starts seems tough at the moment.
