Jurgen Klopp has ruled out any Liverpool move for England keeper Joe Hart, insisting he is not in the market for a new No 1.

Hart, currently on loan at Torino from Manchester City, has been consistently linked with a switch to Anfield but Klopp reiterated his belief in Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. Wales keeper Danny Ward has also enjoyed an impressive season on loan to promotion contenders Huddersfield.

“You ask about goalkeepers but even though you don't say the name is it about Joe Hart?” said Klopp.

“We don't usually talk about these sort of things but in this particular case I think we can. He is a fantastic goalkeeper, the goalkeeper of the English national team, highest quality but we have highest-quality goalkeepers. It is not for us in this moment and hopefully not for us in the future - not because of Joe but we already have two strong goalkeepers. Danny Ward is at Huddersfield and playing a brilliant season - he is our player so we will bring him back next year so there is competition.

“The young ones have also made really big steps. The situation with our goalkeepers is really good. I understand the question but I cannot give the answer probably a few people want.”

While the Liverpool manager is satisfied with the goalkeeping situation, he faces a possible defensive crisis ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend.

Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva have all missed training, which means Joe Gomez is on standby for his first Premier League start since the Brendan Rodgers era.

Gomez has featured in the FA Cup but has been working his way into contention after recovering from a cruciate knee injury.

“We need a solution for the weekend,” said Klopp.

“It is not 100 per cent Lucas, Matip or Klavan can’t play but they are not training at this moment. Joe (Gomez) played on Monday and did well. He has made big steps. Maybe we have to try this pair (with Dejan Lovren). It would help if you can play the same couple consistency but if not, it is not a time to moan.”

Klopp remains unsure if Jordan Henderson will play again this season, but Adam Lallana is expected back in full training in the middle of next week.

That gives him a slight chance of facing Watford next weekend.
