Some eagle-eyed Liverpool fans believe that Mohamed Salah may have undergone a hair transplant this summer after emerging with a new hairstyle shortly after the end of the season.

The winger took to Instagram to show that he had shaved off his bushy locks that have become synonymous with the Egyptian, and showed off his new cropped hairstyle. It led some onlookers to theorise that the superstar had undergone a hair procedure.

Salah has not confirmed the suggestion at this stage but some social media users reckon the attacker’s hairline has taken a new shape since the end of the season. If true, he is not the first Premier League star to undergo a hair transplant. In fact, he’s not even the first football figure on Merseyside to do so.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed he underwent the procedure in 2012 and is happy with how the results turned out. It’s thought that the German used a method that sees clusters of hair implemented in thinning and balding areas of the scalp.

The most famous case in football is Wayne Rooney, who first underwent the same procedure as Klopp in 2011 aged 25. It’s rumoured he paid more than £30,000 for the transplant.

In a tweet around the time, the England icon said: “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I’m delighted with the result.”

Former Chelsea and Spurs boss Antonio Conte perhaps has had the most drastic results. Towards the end of his playing career, he was heavily balding and decided to undergo the hair procedure in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He now sports a full head of hair.

Rob Holding was one of the more recent players to visibly undergo a hair change. He revealed in October 2021 he had gone through the procedure in London.

The Crystal Palace defender said: “I have had so many messages about where I have had my procedure. Wimpole Clinic in London treated me so well and I’m so happy with the results.”

Manchester City legend David Silva underwent his transformation in Turkey. It’s thought he underwent the process due to a receding hairline. Silva had a thick set of hair earlier in his career but decided to undergo the procedure after seeing his hair start to thin.
