Liverpool got their Premier League season underway on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Portman Road when they faced Ipswich Town winning 2-0 thanks to strikes from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

For the Premier League newbies, this was a historic moment - as it was for Arne Slot who took charge of his first competitive Liverpool fixture. And as much as the new manager would like to write his own name into the history books at the Reds, supporters still talk about Jurgen Klopp, looking back on several moments and fond memories.

The German managed his final game as Liverpool manager against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on May 19. After the match, Klopp was lorded in front of the Liverpool faithful - but what has he been up to since then?

New job

The German left Liverpool after citing tiredness and lack of energy as part of the reason he decided to call time on his managerial tenure. Despite being linked with several roles including international management this summer Klopp has been relaxing on the Spanish Balearic Island Majorca. However, he has agreed to a ‘one-off’ role for a farewell match for Borrusia Dortmund legends Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski in September - he managed the pair during a successful spell in Dortmund before joining Liverpool.

He revealed the news in an Instagram Video with the pair: "Kollega, we have a farewell game, do you know that?" Piszczek says. "We need a coach and I have an idea, we'll call the retired coach.”

Klopp was then seen picking up the video call while wearing black sunglasses and a white T-shirt. "You finally have your farewell game. Oh my god. And you want to train before the game. Are you stupid?"

The duo then laughed before asking which team he would manage. "I couldn't care less. I do it like I used to, I start thinking about it five minutes beforehand," he added. “Is the game sold out? I’d buy a ticket if I wasn’t coming anyway!”

By no means does this hint at a potential return to management and is likely a favour due to respect for two players who were vital to his success during his period at Signul Iduna Park

New Hobby

Klopp will undoubtedly have had a lot more time on his hands away from the relentless nature and constant pressure of managing one of the world’s biggest clubs. During his period away from management he has been pictured learning a new sport. The 57-year-old is said to be an avid padel player - which is a sport played in Southern Europe, notably Spain and Italy as well as several South American countries - with similar dynamic but different rules to traditional tennis. Just five days after his farewell he took to Instagram, saying: “Now what I’m doing I try – no, no, I follow my big passion, I try to improve my Padel game. Started two days ago, today is my third session, and I started on an extremely low level, didn’t play for a while and felt it immediately. But step by step, I will get there. Bye”

Spotted in public

Even when he is not the main focus of an event it is difficult to ignore the presence of the former Liverpool man. On June 1 he was picked spotted at Wembley Stadium casting his eye over Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final. Before kick-off he joined in with the Dortmund fans' rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, a song that both Liverpool and Dortmund fans chant before home matches.

As expected, Klopp will continue to watch the game he loves, but a more surprising public appearance came at his usual stomping ground of Anfield on June 14. Taylor Swift wowed fans at the home of the Reds but as usual, Klopp soaked up the love from the Reds’ fans. Before the concert he posted on social media, saying: “So three things I had to do today, no I had two. A barber appointment with Umut then... we're going out to Anfield.

"First time going to Anfield not for a football game but in the stands watching Taylor Swift. So, yeah, I'm not Taylor made obviously but Taylor ready."

He was then spotted enjoying the concert in a box at his former employer's home ground.
