Juventus have pulled out of their attempts to lure Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes to Italy this summer, according to reports.

The Brazil international was one of the Gunners’ better players last season as they narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.

Gabriel scored five goals in 35 Premier League matches for Arsenal last season after joining from Lille for £27m in September 2020.

Are you still here? One forgotten or unshiftable player for each Premier League club

Juventus have just sold Matthijs de Ligt to Bayern Munich for £65.6m this summer and they will now need a replacement for the Netherlands international.

Previous reports have indicated that Gabriel was their priority target to do just that with Arsenal reportedly asking for £40m for their centre-back’s services.

On Monday there were claims that Juventus had made fresh contact over a move for Gabriel with the Gunners asking for hard cash and no player exchanges.

And now the Daily Mirror claims that Juventus are ‘admitting defeat’ in their pursuit of the Arsenal defender with any potential transfer ‘falling flat’.

The report adds that Juventus ‘will now not be making a move for the Brazilian having decided on an alternative target in the form of Torino’s Gleison Bremer’.

Another defender who is likely to feature a lot for Arsenal this season is William Saliba after the France international returned from a season-long loan at Marseille.

And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell insists Saliba will be going nowhere this summer despite doubts earlier in the window about his future.

Campbell told Football Insider: “He made the decision to join Arsenal young. Even the manager has had talks. He went on loan again to play regularly. He played as much as he could play and had an incredible season in France.

“Now he is back and is back with a vengeance. He has come to the Premier League to make a mark and make a name for himself. You have to take your hat off to him.

“I kept on saying that he was going to be an Arsenal player from this season. I knew he was going nowhere. Sometimes the media can say things that can get under your skin and upset the apple cart. Some Arsenal fans bit on it.

“Saliba is going nowhere. You can see that he wants to be here. The club has a wonderful French connection and he’s the next one. There is going to be no problems if he keeps doing what he is doing.”
