Juventus sent Douglas Luiz instruction amid shock Aston Villa return claim
Juventus great Massimo Bonini has delivered his verdict on Douglas Luiz amid a difficult start to life in Turin for the Brazilian, following his transfer from Aston Villa.
Luiz departed Villa Park for Juve in the summer in a £42m deal, but he has only made two starts amid seven appearances so far in Serie A and two substitute appearances in the Champions League.
His future at the Italian club has already been questioned, with Villa even linked with a shock move to bring him back to Villa Park in January. But Bonini, who played with Michel Platini as Juve won Serie A and the European Cup, believes Luiz should be kept by his former club and given time to prove himself.

Speaking to Tuttosport, he said: “I go against the grain. I like him, I think he’s an important player. We have to wait for Douglas because he has great quality.
“English football is very different from ours and it takes time to fit in and settle into a more tactical league like ours. After all, even a champion like Platini took six months to establish himself in Italy.
“He just needs to recover mentally,” he added. “The mistakes he made were due to wanting to overdo it. I saw him not very calm and this led him to commit two naive penalty fouls against Leipzig and Cagliari.
“Technically Douglas is strong and very good: he comes out of all the most difficult situations with the ball at his feet. It takes time for him to learn to play as a team – that’s all he lacks.”
