Max has canceled The Flight Attendant after two seasons, PEOPLE has confirmed.

The first season of the Kaley Cuoco-led series debuted on the streamer in 2020 with its second installment airing in 2022. Based on Chris Bohjalian’s eponymous novel, the show also starred Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, Deniz Akdeniz and Rosie Perez.

“What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime," Cuoco wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE. "I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons."

She added, "Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”

The series' showrunner and executive producer Steve Yockey also opened up about his experience on the show.

The Flight Attendant was a true passion project and the reception from viewers and critics alike was pretty stunning," he said. "Our unorthodox spectacle of a show really found people. As we all move on to new projects, those two seasons of television and the incredible team of professionals behind them will always stay at the top of my list.”

Cuoco earned two Emmy Award nominations in 2021 and 2022 for her performance as Cassandra "Cassie" Bowden, an unstable flight attendant entangled in a murder. She was also given another nod in 2021 for her role as EP.

"This has been the honor of my career," she told PEOPLE at the time of winning her first nomination. "When the announcements came out, my heart swelled. But I feel like I've already won."

The Big Bang Theory alum, who also served as a producer for the show, confessed that the behind-the-scenes role had been somewhat of an uncharted territory when she first began.

"I had never made a show," said Cuoco. "I was like, 'I don't even know how people do this!' And I didn't realize, until this show, how many people are involved in getting this thing off the ground."

In May 2022, Cuoco exclusively told PEOPLE that there weren't any plans in the works for a third season.

"Now, I'm like, 'Well, we did two. We should probably be done.' And I think I've been outnumbered with that thought," she explained at the time. "There's definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed."

Cuoco admitted that she "could possibly get back in it," though she doesn't want to do so right away.

"I think I need a minute. I just kind of feel like we just ended," she said. "Some of my favorite shows on TV take some time to come back, and then I get very excited about a new season. I want to make sure that the fans are excited and that we're not pushing it too hard."
