Peter Schmeichel has shared the guidance he offered to his son Kasper following Celtic's devastating Champions League loss.

Dortmund ruthlessly exposed Brendan Rodgers' team's elite level shortcomings, leaving the Hoops trailing 5-1 at half time before adding two more goals in the second half to deepen the gloom. Thanks to a few clever saves in the second half, Schmeichel Jnr managed to limit the damage to seven goals.

However, this will provide little comfort to a goalkeeper with his mentality, who won't easily forget conceding seven goals, regardless of the situation. Peter, who was working at the match for CBS and had previously triumphed in Europe with Manchester United as a player, would have been on the winning side of some routs in this tournament. But instead of offering commiserations, the Great Dane told his son what is now expected of him as he made his way to the dressing room deep within Signal Iduna Park.

"It really is difficult because you always want the best for your children," he expressed. "It doesn't matter what situation they find themselves in, and of course today was just one of those days that you can never, ever explain.", reports the Daily Record.

"There were so many shots at goal. Seven of them went in and it could have been a little bit more. As Callum McGregor said to me earlier, it was just one of those days and they couldn't get close enough to close that down.

"I spoke to Kasper as he came out of the game here and their dressing room is just there. I spoke to him and said this was a bad, bad day at the office and take it as nothing more. Move on, be one of the leaders in the dressing room and help everybody else recover from this.

"Because up until this point, don't forget, Celtic have played really, really good football and there is so much optimism at the club. Obviously they need to go through what happened and all tha, but this was just a rally, really bad day in the office."
