Kasper Schmeichel's Celtic success story has STUNNED ex-Manchester United star Paul Parker.

Schmeichel - the son of Old Trafford legend Peter - has made a flawless start at Parkhead since answering Brendan Rodgers' SOS in the summer. The Leicester City title-winner has won his first eight games between the sticks for the Hoops and has yet to concede a single goal in the league.

But the Denmark No1's form has shocked former England international Parker, who expected the 37-year-old to return south after a short spell at Anderlecht. "I’m honestly quite shocked at how well things have gone for him at Celtic", he told SpilXperten.

"He was as good as finished. I expected him to either retire or maybe return to England and play at a lower level. It's a pretty surprising turn of events, in my opinion. We all heard the rumours about Premier League clubs being interested in him, but I’ve always said that he can be a disruptive presence in the dressing room if he’s stuck on the bench. That’s why I had a hard time imagining that happening.

"The level of competition in Scotland isn’t that high, we have to admit, and it’s a good place for an older goalkeeper to go. There isn’t a lot of work to do when you’re Celtic’s goalkeeper, but that doesn’t make his performances any less impressive."

Although Schmeichel has yet to pick the ball out of his net in the Premiership, he will be tested in the Champions League as Celts travel to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

Parker added: "Celtic is a fantastic club. A lot of players dream of joining them. If the Scottish league were at a higher level, they’d have an easier time attracting players, but their fans are a huge bonus. It must be a great feeling for Schmeichel to have that experience before he ends his career. The story couldn’t have been written much better, and I’m happy he’s had such a good start."
