In a statement shared to their official Instagram page, Kensington Palace confirms that Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales will remain in the hospital for up to two weeks due to a “planned abdominal surgery.” Per the statement, the Princess is recovering and “the surgery was successful,” but any planned public appearances will be postponed or canceled until after Easter, which falls on March 31 this year.
“It is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the statement continued. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
Though the specifics of her procedure are unclear (and rightfully so!), PEOPLE confirms that “the issue was noncancerous,” which is certainly good to hear.
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible,” they added.
PEOPLE notes that once she is discharged from the hospital, the mom of three will recover at home in Windsor, where she and her family moved in 2022 from London. Prince William reportedly will trim down his upcoming public appearances in an effort to care for his wife as well as the couple’s three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. He has also postponed any public duties while Middleton remains in the hospital and in the early days of her recovery at home, notes the outlet.
We’re wishing the Princess good vibes for a gentle and speedy recovery, as well as all the best to her family as they support her through it.
