Kate Middleton was quick to comfort Meghan Markle at Wimbledon
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and her sister-in-law, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were guests of honour at Wimbledon over the weekend as they watched the ladies' singles final with Kate's sister Pippa Middleton.
The trio were snapped sharing a joke or two in the royal box on Centre Court, but when Meghan's friend Serena Williams lost her eighth Wimbledon title to Romanian player Simona Halep, Kate was quick to comfort Harry's wife.
According to People, the Duchess of Cambridge "put her hand out and rubbed Meghan’s back to console her" when world number four, Simona beat Serena in straight sets to win her first Wimbledon championship title.
Meghan and Serena have been close friends since 2010 when they "hit it off immediately" at a Super Bowl party. Since then, Meghan has watched Serena win a number of titles – and Serena has supported Meghan as she took to royal life, attending her May 2018 wedding to Prince Harry at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle and her baby shower before the birth of baby Archie earlier this year.
"We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other a lot recently," Serena recently said in an interview.
People's sources revealed Kate and Meghan's friendship is also "strengthening" since the Sussexes welcomed Archie, silencing rumours of a reported royal feud.
They added the pair have been under "undue pressure where the whole world wanted them to be best friends".
This is the second year in a row both women came together a row to witness Serena Williams in a Wimbledon final. Last year, Markle – wearing Ralph Lauren – and Middleton in Jenny Packham saw Angelique Kerber claim victory over Williams.
