Keane says Man Utd are ‘lucky’ as he jibes ‘giddy’ Spurs and ‘absolutely useless’ West Ham
Roy Keane reckons Manchester United got “lucky” against West Ham on Wednesday night, and took a pot shot at Tottenham in his post-match analysis at Old Trafford.
The Hammers had a number of presentable opportunities in the first half and took the lead shortly after the break through Said Benrahma.
Erik ten Hag’s side were well short of their best for an hour but started to play the football we now associate with them to turn the deficit around and claim a 3-1 victory.
Nayef Aguerd’s own goal brought the scores level before Alejandro Garnacho’s fine last-minute strike put the Red Devils in the lead, with Fred wrapping up the victory in stoppage time.
It was far from a convincing display from United, who could have been two or three down before they found their feet.
And Keane believes that’s not been unusual this season, claiming “the Spurs’ of this world” frequently fail to make early dominance pay, which costs them later in the game.
Keane said: “I have seen it all before. They come, get a bit giddy, have opportunities, not just West Ham, but the Spurs’ of this world, they get possession, one or two chances, they get plaudits, they end up getting beaten.
“Defensively West Ham were shocking, absolutely useless and gave away three goals. I have seen it over the years, but it’s laughable.”

United brought some of their star players on in the second half, with Casemiro, Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez all entering the fray and making a significant difference.
But Keane said his former side were lucky to still be in the game come the second half.
“They have got lucky tonight,” Keane said.
“We said before tonight that he made a huge gamble with all the changes and it looked like it was going to backfire, but they started to do what they were good at, contributions from players off the bench. 3-1, comfortable in the end.”
