Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s chances of a summer exit appear to be on the rise as a Serie A giant tries to wrap up a deal for the stopper.

The Spain international has been linked with an exit ever since Edouard Mendy was signed from French club Rennes as the club’s new No.1 back in September 20.

There was a big fanfare when Kepa was signed for a world record £72million fee back in 2018.

However, things have not quite gone to plan since, with Kepa failing to reach his true potential in London.

High-profile mistakes led to him being dropped and he is now firmly behind Mendy in the goalkeeping stakes.

The Spaniard is, however, in the USA for the club’s pre-season tour. Indeed, he featured in the weekend 2-1 win over Club America.

But with Kepa set to revert to his backup role when the new campaign begins, the Daily Mail states that Napoli are looking to snap the player up on a season-long loan.

The Naples-based outfit are looking at bringing in a new keeper. That is largely due to their own stopper being linked with an exit.

Kepa could have Napoli void to fill

Alex Meret has been targeted by the likes of Tottenham and Everton in recent months and faces an uncertain future this summer.

The links to those two clubs is perhaps a little odd. Spurs signed Fraser Forster over the summer, while the Toffees still have Asmir Begovic. Add in the fact that Hugo Lloris and Jordan Pickford are the respective first choices and a swoop for Meret does appear strange.

Despite that, Napoli still want to bolster their backline, having already signed defender Leo Ostigard from Brighton. Indeed, Kepa was mentioned as potential makeweight in the Kalidou Koulibaly signing.

There is a strong feeling from around Chelsea that Kepa going out on loan is a sensible move.

It would allow the 27-year-old a full season and a chance to get back to his best.

If he does leave, Mendy and Marcus Bettinelli will be Thomas Tuchel’s top two goalkeepers.

Kepa time at Chelsea coming to a close

While a year away could do wonders for Kepa going forward, it does appear his Chelsea days are numbered.

Mendy is firmly ensconced as Tuchel’s No.1 and there no signs of that changing any time sign.

The Senegal international is still under contract until 2025. To that end, the Blues hope loaning out Kepa will only have one likely outcome – his sale price is driven up if things go well.

In between the mistakes, Kepa has shown flashes of brilliance that could entice a number of suitors.
