Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has slammed present England’s County cricket system after England’s poor batting show in the Lord’s Test against India, which handed them and 151-run loss. The Joe Root-led side collapsed against the Indian team while chasing a 272-run target at Lord’s in the 2nd Test. England had to bat about 60 odd overs on Day 5 to take the match to a draw, however, they were bowled out for just 120 in 51.5 overs.

The most interesting thing to watch in the match was how the scenario of the game totally changed on the final day. England had the dominant position at the stumps on Day 4, restricting India to 181-6 in the second innings with a 154-run lead. However, they failed to outplay the Indian tailenders Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, who built a solid 89-run unbeaten stand to take India’s lead to 271 in the end.

England batsmen had to play about two sessions to avoid a defeat in the match but they could not handle the pressure of the Indian bowling attack. Joe Root was the only batsman to score more than 30 runs. A total of 5 batsmen lost their wickets for a duck while 8 players lost their wickets for a single-digit score.

The tension in the England batting camp rose from the start of their batting after openers Dom Sibley and Rory Burns were gone for a duck. Indian pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Jaspirt Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, and Mohammed Shami gave no chance to England to settle on the crease, dismissing each of them. With the epic victory at Lord’s, India leads the 5-match series 1-0.
