The n°1 French rider Kevin Staut (10th on the FEI-Rolex rankings) secured a victory in Monte Carlo on Saturday evening, the sixth Grand Prix of the Global Champions Tour 2012, after a jump off with three outsiders.
First to go on the course designed by Uliano Vezzani, the Swiss rider Christina Liebherr and her excellent chestnut LB Callas Sitte Z litttle missed the clear round and finaly finished 4th. The 3rd place surprisingly goes to the Marroccan rider Abdelkebir Ouaddar who rides His Majesty’s Mohamed VI, King of Marrocco, and has been training with Marcel Rozier for six months in order to prepare for the WEG 2014 in Normandy.
Hans-Dieter Dreher and his fabulous stallion Embassy II, a horse he has only been riding for a year, secured the 2nd place after signing a clear round. The regular riders of this circuit (Beerbaum, Ehning, Kutscher) being absent because of their preparation for Aachen CSIO), the German rider could have made it to the podium but the French rider Kevin Staut, last to go, taking all the risks without making any mistake, decided otherwise.
Kevin Staut’s success comes just at the right time. Two days ago has been announced the creation of the Team « HDC Competition » in which he is associated to Patrice Delaveau and Olivier Guillon, all three supported by Mr. and Mrs. Perron-Pette, owners of the Haras des Coudrettes. A nice way to start off this new project.
Besides, and even if he has always been faithful to this GCT circuit, the European champion 2009 (Windsor) and team silver medalist at the WEG (Lexington), won a Grand Prix in this circuit for the first time in Monte Carlo.
Hence, this success with Rêveur de Hurtebise, a horse bought by the Haras des Coudrettes a few months ago from the Swedish rider Malin Baryard-Johnsson, probaly boosted Kevin’s confidence. The rider had been upset early in the season when his previous partner the Haras des Hus suddenly stopped his collaboration with him, and gave Zeta de Hus to Michel Robert. When he got off his horse, Kevin declared « With this victory, I hope I finally secured my selection for the Olympic Games in London ! »
