Kieran Tierney says he has signed a new contract with Arsenal as he is convinced the club can get back to the top.

Tierney, who joined Arsenal in 2019 from Celtic for around £25million, has penned a new five-year deal with the Gunners.

The left-back has been one of the team’s star players under Mikel Arteta and he has admitted the Spaniard was a big factor in him staying.

The Scot, however, has also revealed he decided to sign a new contract as he is convinced Arsenal are on the right path to success.

“I think the vision of the club, and where it wants to go and the expectations of the club, is where I want to be in football, at the top,” said Tierney.

“There is no doubt about it. We are not where we want to be just now, but we are going in the right direction.

“The way the club is run from the inside is amazing. I love everyone. I love all the staff, the players, I love the manager and just working with them is an absolute joy.

“Being happy in life it speaks for a lot and I am happy just now. I was more than happy to think about my future.

“Obviously the love that I had at Celtic, I thought you can’t replicate that anywhere but from day one the Arsenal fans have shown me so much love.

“They have been patient with me through injuries. Times when it has not gone well they have stuck with me, even messages on social media and seeing people on the street.

“It is just brilliant and it gives you confidence. I just can’t wait to get fans back in the stadiums now.

“Everyone at the club has been brilliant. The confidence that the manager has given me.

“When I spoke to him after I signed this contract I said just thank you so much, because he took me when my confidence was at my lowest for sure.

“100 per cent I was the lowest confidence I had felt after my injury, moving away from home. I was so low and he’s picked me up and helped me.

“I never thought I would have that connection so soon and I really do.”
