Leeds United outcast Kiko Casilla has shown his desire to leave Elland Road this summer by revealing he will ‘go right now’ if a particular club makes contact.
Casilla joined Leeds on a free transfer from Real Madrid in January 2019. He went on to play 61 times for the Whites before signing for Elche on loan last summer.
The 35-year-old had little chance of replacing Illan Meslier in the team and Leeds therefore let him go.
Casilla went straight into Elche’s starting eleven but lost his place from November onwards. He picked up two La Liga appearances before the end of the campaign as Elche finished 13th in the Spanish top flight.
Casilla is now back in West Yorkshire following the end of his loan move. But he probably won’t stick around due to Meslier being number one and Kristoffer Klaesson being the Frenchman’s backup.
Casilla’s Leeds contract runs until 2023. However, Jesse March’s team might consider ending it a year early to get him off their wage bill.
Sport Witness claim a return to Espanyol could be on the cards for the one-cap Spain international.
He featured in 126 games for the Catalan outfit before moving to Real Madrid in a £5.4million deal seven years ago.
Kiko Casilla eager to go back to former club
During a recent interview with COPE, Casilla was asked about a potential return to the club.
He said (via Sport Witness): “If Espanyol call me, I’ll go right now.”
It seems Casilla would jump at the chance to go back to the RCDE Stadium, should the opportunity come about.
It’s no surprise the goalkeeper wants to leave Leeds after such a disappointing spell. He is low in the pecking order and when he has played previously he has been sub-par.
Leeds are likely to send him packing as part of a free transfer. So it’s lucky they didn’t spend money when he originally joined.
Meanwhile, a report claims Leeds are still in the mix for Charles De Ketelaere and has cast doubt on an AC Milan switch for the Belgian.
