Kim Kardashian West Said Caring for COVID-Positive Kanye Was “So Scary”

"Changing his sheets with gloves and a face shield was really a scary time."

Kim Kardashian West opened up about her “scary” experience caring for her husband, Kanye West, when he contracted coronavirus (COVID-19) at the beginning of when the pandemic came to the United States.

In her cover story for Grazia, Kardashian West said that Kanye was diagnosed with coronavirus “during the time that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announced that they had COVID.” Hanks and Wilson were among the first high-profile celebrities to reveal that they’d tested positive for coronavirus back in mid-March. Part of what made Kardashian West’s experience so terrifying, she said, was that information about COVID was so scarce then.

“Kanye had it way at the beginning, when nobody really knew what was going on,” she told the magazine. “It was so scary and unknown...I had to go and change his sheets and help him get out of bed when he wasn’t feeling good. It was a challenge because it was so unknown."

"Changing his sheets with gloves and a face shield was really a scary time," Kardashian West said.

Beyond that, the mogul said, “It was so scary and unknown. I had my four babies and no-one else in the house to help.” The couple share children North, 7 years old; Saint, 4; Chicago, 2; and Psalm, 16 months.

West previously revealed that he’d tested positive for COVID-19 in a July interview with Forbes, which was published a few days after he announced on Twitter that he would be joining the presidential race. (His controversial campaign has since unraveled.) West shared that his symptoms included “chills [and] shaking in the bed,” and that spent time “looking at videos telling me what I’m supposed to do to get over it.”

In her Grazia interview, Kardashian West also confirmed that the world will get a glimpse into how the Kardashian family navigated the pandemic in the final, 20th (!) season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

“[It’ll] be really interesting to see what all of us were doing during the pandemic,” Kardashian West said. “We were so scared and cautious and we shared every moment of that. Having to be with four kids and not have their friends or their routines and no help. It was a very different side of us that I don’t think anyone’s really seen.”

As filming halted at the outset of the pandemic, the family filmed their own footage on their iPhones. Production has started back up again “in a very careful way,” Kardashian West said, “but the end of the season goes back into a little bit of normalcy.”

“We want to fully live this out,” she added. We’re sure the Kardashians’ hundreds of millions of followers are ready to live it out with them.
